Card Hypothesis

FACT: Each card has a number on one side and a letter on the other.

HYPOTHESIS: Every card that has a vowel on one side has an even number on its opposite side.

THE QUESTION: Which card or cards must you turn over in order to test the Hypothesis?

Just two cards red and yellow. I think it easier to prove a hypothesis as It usually has a point it is supporting so yo can test that theory but going against it’s theory.

  2. k3vinjames says:

Green Card only, and it is easier to prove a hypothesis wrong

  3. hockeyplayer says:

red green yellow/ red green blue/ red yellow blue/ green yellow blue

  4. coolraccoon318 says:

    The Red and Blue card.

  5. confusedpinky says:

I would flip over the yellow “2” card and the red “E” card since it covers both the numbers and letters.

It is easier to prove a hypostasis false rather then true because there are only so many answers and outcomes that can be true but so many that can be false.

  6. laflame12 says:

I would flip the red and yellow card because if the red is flipped and there is a odd number that proves the hypothesis false or if you flip the number two yellow card and the letter on the back isn’t a vowel it also proves the hypothesis false. I think it doesn’t matter if you are trying to prove a hypothesis false or true, either way you would have to test the hypothesis.

    Extra Credit:
It is easier to prove a hypothesis false because most of the time a hypothesis goes against the norm so it would be easier to “falsify” a claim because in a way you would need less evidence if the counter argument was more believable.

  8. planefan25 says:

    1. Red, green, yellow, blue

    2. I believe it is easier to prove a hypothesis false. There are a million reasons why something could be wrong but even if you do find something to support your hypothesis you have to test it over and over again.

  9. JetsFan2 says:

    Yellow and green
It is easier to prove a hypothesis wrong than right.

  10. TheFrogSprog says:

The Red and Yellow cards must be turned over in order to prove the hypothesis true or not. I think it is easier to prove the hypothesis false because the amount of numbers doesn’t match the amount of cards.

  11. puffer says:

All cards. It is easier to prove a hypothesis wrong.

  12. 777sunflower777 says:

I believe that the only cards needed flipped are red, yellow and blue. Since G is neither a vowel or a number I don’t believe it should be flipped. I think that its harder to prove a hypothesis true because a lot of hypotheses cannot be proved, therefore its hard to prove them. There’s a lot of reasons for something to be false but not a lot to prove something true if that makes sense.

  13. eric cartman says:

Just 2 cards: Red and Yellow. Hypothesis’s tend to be easier to prove false, because in order to prove something true you must find convincing as well as valid evidence and support.

  14. Urbie says:

All four cards must be turned over in order to test the Hypothesis because it will show us all the Hypothesis for each group of cards

  15. ANONYMOUS says:

I would just flip two card the yellow and the red cards
Its easier to prove a hypothesis false because of ever evolving sources and near infinite possible test cases for the hypothesis

  16. nothingxtoxsay says:

I believe we have to flip the Red and Yellow card

    • nothingxtoxsay says:

I believe it’s easier to prove a hypothesis wrong than to prove it right because it would only take one observation to prove that is wrong.

  17. puffer says:

I changed my answer to red and yellow…

and I think it is easier to prove a hypothesis wrong.

  18. Urbie says:

the right answer is red and yellow because is easier to prove the Hypothesis since a vowel on one side has an even number on its opposite side, so there is no manner what the other cart without a vowel we don’t need to know about it.

  19. ladybug122718 says:

Since we only see that the four cards have different answers. I would test my hypothesis by using the red card as it has a letter then if we flip it over it may give us either a number or another letter. The same could be said for the others but we won’t know till be test it.

  20. sunflower828 says:

I would flip the red and yellow cards over to test the hypothesis and see if it is true or false. I feel as if it is easier to prove the hypothesis wrong.

    Red and Yellow

It is easier to prove a hypothesis right if the facts match up

  22. Red and yellow. I think its easier to prove a hypothesis false.

  23. hurtnowitzki says:

    red and yellow.

Extra credit: with good evaluation I believe its easier to prove an hypothesis false

  24. gingerbreadman27 says:

Just two cards, the red and yellow cards. It is easier to prove a hypothesis false because there is only a finite number of things that can prove it’s true and and you need to know what to look for.

  25. ichverdustehier says:

must turn over red and yellow card, and blue maybe
it is easier to prove wrong than to prove it true bc it is easier to prove it does not deviate from the norm than to prove that it does differ , to prove it true you need all thew evidence in the world and no one has time for that

  26. indigo143 says:

I think you only have to turn over the red card. I think it is easier to prove a hypothesis false because I think it is more likely to have different outcomes. To prove a hypothesis right, the experiment has to be true 100%. Depending on the experiment, sometimes human error and different variables can cause your hypothesis to prove false.

It is easier to prove a hypothesis right if the research matches it.

  28. babyyoda23 says:

I would flip the red and yellow cards to test the hypothesis if every vowel has an even number on the opposite side. its easier to test if a hypothesis is incorrect rather than correct.

  29. millycain says:

Turning over the red and the yellow would test the hypothesis. The reason why you wouldn’t turn over the blue and green is because they are irrelevant to the hypothesis. The green card could yield an even number, but that wouldn’t be helpful to testing the hypothesis.

Extra Credit: Proving a hypothesis false is easier because all it takes is one uncertain variable to prove it as false, where as everything has to line up perfectly for it to be true.

  30. thad711 says:

    red and blue
and easier to prove hypothesis false than true

  31. I believe that the only cards you should flip are the red and blue cards. They are the only 2 cards that would prove the hypothesis false. This will eliminate the rest of the cards and other go to the fact that the hypothesis is true or not.
EC: It is easier to prove a hypothesis false rather than true. this is because if one of the cards is odd then the hypothesis is false. but if you were trying to prove it true then you would flip every card to see if every card follows the hypothesis.

  32. youngthug03 says:

I would flip the red and yellow cards because they are the only cards that could prove that the hypothesis is true. So, if the yellow card fails when it’s flipped over, it will discredit the hypothesis.
    Correct answer- red and blue

    Extra Credit:
I feel that the hypothesis is easier to prove wrong instead of right. Due to the fact that usually hypothesis has not been proven right yet and is building information to prove it right.

    • bloguser246 says:

I would flip the red card because the card is a vowel and the blue card because it’s an odd number. These are the only cards that can test the hypothesis because the E must have a even number on the other side and the 3 must have a consonant. The other two cards are irrelevant.
I think it is easier to prove a hypothesis false because only one card is needed to prove this hypothesis false but a multiple of cards can continue to be tested in order to prove this hypothesis true.
