It seems counterintuitive that the photographers should have stopped people from desecrating Fabienne Cherisma’s corpse, but they did nothing upon arriving at the scene aside from taking pictures of her corpse and her family as they took it away.
Fabienne Cherisma was shot by police on January 19, 2010, during the lootings after the Haitian earthquake occurred. From the time of the shooting to when her family arrived on the scene about 30 minutes after the shooting and took her body away, there had been at least 15 photographers there, taking pictures. They did not try to stop people from looting the body. Nor did they stop taking pictures when her family arrived on the scene, instead following them and taking pictures as they did so.
The photographers while not responsible for her death, did have a responsibility to act in a decent manner and prevent her body from being looted in front of them.
You do a good job of condensing the long story into a very tight space, RoboFrog. That’s good Summary. What you don’t do as well is communicated a Purpose.
Your conclusion that the photographers SHOULD have conducted themselves with more respect for the rights of the girl and her family would meet that goal. But you confuse readers in your first paragraph by suggesting you were going to draw a different sort of conclusion about their responsibility to actually perhaps save her life.
You should be able to sustain your focus better over such a short piece of writing. We can’t really tell from your tone what if anything you think the photographers should have done differently.
