Well, yeah, but, . . .
—The ad begins with a close-up of a photograph being held by someone wearing yellow and black gloves.
—The gloves are not dress gloves. Their two-tone nature indicates they serve a function, like ski gloves or, in this case driving gloves.
—The suggestion of driving gloves is supported in several ways.
—The photo is being contemplated by whoever is holding it in an enclosed space, not a room, but a space that features shaped black plastic that looks like a car interior.
—The car suggestion is also supported by the fact that one of the two people in the photograph is seen inside a car, in the driver’s seat. We get this notion from the shape of his confines, the closeness of the two characters in the picture, the fact that one of them (seen from behind) appears to be making eye contact with the other (seen from in front) who sits in the car wearing what is probably racing gear complete with a team logo.
—A thick rubber “grid” hangs between the two people, apparently draped over the car door. This will be familiar to race fans as the protective web that will keep the driver from rolling out the window in the event of a crash.
—The driver is that photo is looking with joy and appreciation at someone who, judging by his apparent age, could be his son.
—We know from long experience of seeing movies that when someone holds a photo of family members for more than a second, the indication is clear the person holding the photo is reminiscing about a lost time with family.
—Etc.
—We draw the conclusion that whoever holds the photo is likely the “son” in the picture and that he misses his dad, who was ALSO a race driver.
—We don’t know yet whether this is a NASCAR promotion or a drama about race driving, but we know where we are and who we’re dealing with.
—Etc.
