The setting takes place in a classroom, not too many decorations just basic and plain, the color of the walls in this classroom is a cream color. The floor kind of looks like a dark blue carpet. There are 15 desks in the classroom and the chairs are dark blue and the desk color is a light grey. From counting how many desks are in the classroom, I would assume that there would be 15 students in this class. The classroom is very dark, and it looks like the person in the doorway is probably a teacher for this class. The classroom has two boards, one white board and a smart board, above the white is an America flag, and below the boards are three blue chairs facing towards the desks. next to the three blue chairs are a wooden cabinet and a bookshelf, the bookshelf is filled with all sorts of books and papers; On the other wall near the classroom door are three more bookshelves’, there also filled with books and papers. on top of the middle the bookshelf’s is a black clock

As the lady walks into the classroom, she turns to the light switch to turn the lights on. As the lights turn on the classroom still looks kind of dark but not as dark as it was before. Near the door I notice the little posters. I also noticed that the carpet is not actually dark blue its more so like a dark grey color.

The camera is moved closer to the women, showing more details of her face, she seems to be in her 40-50s years of age. Shes wearing a bright pink blouse with a sliver necklace, she has a ring of her left ring finger and also hand a watch on that hand as well. Shes looking out the classroom window not really sure what Shes looking at though.

The camera moves in even closer to her face, the background is blurred out and Shes still looking outside of the window in the classroom.

The teacher is sitting down at a wooden brown table, the desks that are behind her are in 2 rows line up behind each other, From this angle the classroom looks more darker than before. The lights on the ceiling look old and not as bright as many other lights. The women’s name appears on the bottom left of the screen.

In this clip the women’s back is faced towards the audience, it seems to me that she is opening curtains that lead to another room, The curtains are slightly open however the background is blurred out so you can really see what’s behind the curtains

As the curtains open, the setting no longer takes place in a classroom, its more so like a place you would host events at, the floor is a dark blue carpet with yellow ballons on the ground, there are 7 people standing there shouting with their hands in the air, they look excited, it seems like they threw a surprise party for the women that opened the curtains. The place is well decorated, behind the people are big brown curtains and more yellow ballons there are also pictures of the women’s family on the canvas.

The camera switches back to the teacher, and just by looking at her face you can tell that Shes very happy about her surprise party.
0:12
As the camera switches back to her friends their all happy and it looks like there singing with their hands in the air, The camera moves down and flips back to the teacher

The women looked at the canvas with all the picture of her and her family, as she’s looking at the pictures she covers her mouth, she seems to be very shocked and also excited at the same time. There are more yellow ballons on the left side of her.

The camera starts to zoom out, showing more of the picture, in total there are 8 canvases, 4 on the left and 4 on the right.

The camera flips back to her friends showing a man and a women standing next to each other. The man is wearing circle glasses, he’s wearing a suit, and he looks very happy to be there. The women standing next to him has straight black hair and she is wearing a white dress, and she also looks happy to be there for her friend as well.
0:16-0:19
The women start to hug all of her friends, thanking them for surprising her, the camera switches to a picture of the women in a yellow gown and stand in the middle of her 2 sons. Another picture is taken with the women and all of her friends that came to support her. The women is holding a yellow book, on the book it looks like it says congratulations on graduating.
0:20
All the people that were at this event finally take a group picture with the teacher to congratulate her for graduating.
0:24
As we can a closer view of the yellow book it says at the bottom left ” When you graduate,” and at the bottom right of the book it says, “They graduate”.

As the video ends the camera comes back to the classroom, However the classroom is blurred out, on the screen there’s a text, The text says “Finish your diploma.org, find free and supportive adult education centers near you”
Reflection: Overall, I feel like there wasn’t much to write about with the different settings. The only setting that I could really get a lot of information and details from was when the setting took place in the classroom. The classroom provides a lot of objects to talk about, however in the other settings it was really plain.
Unicorn, I would never have guessed from your description of the first second that the mood was so dark. You said the room was dark, but not that the overall impression of the room we’re “in” was so depressing.
The odd angle, taken from ceiling height, creates an impression that we can see the entirety of the environment from an inhuman angle, literally “looking down” on the scene, judging it.
If you had to name your overall reaction to the classroom, would you say it was chosen to reflect “the best and most advanced” pedagogical environment? If not, how would you describe it? Average? Mediocre? A little depressing?
I don’t know what to expect from this first image, but I do know it’s not likely to be a “show off” piece from the Board of Education.
If it showed up on your TV unexpectedly, would you think you were looking at a commercial for a product? A reality show about a small-town economy?
To me, it doesn’t matter at all what color the chairs are. What does interest me is that the chairs don’t face the white board OR the smart board. What in the world ARE they facing? Doesn’t that suggest that the makers of the video turned all the chairs and desks to face the camera for some reason? It’s a very artificial setup. I don’t know what it signifies, but you didn’t mention it.
Maybe it’s common to have a flag flying inside a classroom, but I haven’t seen one for years. Does it say something about the community outside this room?
I just want to alert you to all the information contained in an image that may have escaped your attention at first but that IS THERE. We react to those details whether we notice it or not.
When there’s time to slow down those impressions, as there is in this assignment, your job is to decide WHY the director entered this room and chose this angle, decided to “shine some light” on the scene after a period of darkness, cast the “teacher” as someone entering an empty room instead of showing her in the middle of a lesson with those 15 or 20 students . . . .
Get the idea?
