Robust Verbs-Urbie

Original Paragraph:

There is a huge problem in Vancouver with heroin addicts committing crimes to support their habits. The “free heroin for addicts” program is doing everything they can to stop the addicts. The problem is that there is a large crime rate due to the addicts. It is obvious that addicts have a hard time getting through their day to day lives. Daily activities such as jobs, interactions, and relationships are hard to maintain because of the fact that they are using. By heroin users being addicted, they will do whatever they have to do to get their hands on the drug. The types of crimes committed are those of breaking and entering as well as stealing. There are no limits to where they will go to retrieve this drug so that they can feed their addiction. The problem with this program is that it won’t help to ween these addicts off using heroin. It is only trying to save the city from rising crime rates that they’re up to. By providing the drug, these addicts will be off the streets, which in turn will prevent them from committing minor street crimes. This will also keep the heroin users out of the hospital. It is pointless that the hospitals have to deal with people that want to use bad drugs or unsanitary needles and find themselves being unable to afford hospital bills and hard to cope without the drug. This program gives people free heroin in the cleanest way possible. This will in turn fix the city but not the addiction that these people face.

Revised Paragraph:

Vancouver faces a pressing issue as heroin addicts’ resort to criminal acts to sustain their habits. The “free heroin for addicts” program diligently strives to address this crisis. The core of the problem lies in the surging crime rates attributed to addiction. Evidently, addicts grapple with the daily challenges of maintaining jobs, social interactions, and relationships due to their dependence. Heroin users, driven by addiction, will go to great lengths to secure their next fix. These crimes predominantly involve break-ins and theft, with addicts exhibiting no boundaries in their pursuit of the drug to satisfy their cravings. However, this program’s shortcoming is its inability to facilitate addicts in breaking free from heroin dependency. Its primary aim is to curb the city’s escalating crime rates. By providing heroin, the program temporarily removes addicts from the streets, which, in turn, mitigates minor street-level offenses. Moreover, it keeps heroin users out of the hospital. It is disheartening that hospitals have to contend with patients who resort to subpar drugs and unsanitary needles, leading to unmanageable medical bills and withdrawal struggles. The program offers a safe, clean heroin supply, potentially stabilizing the city, yet failing to address the underlying addiction issue.

Canine companions on boosting lives of PTSD Veterans

Majority of the world know and understand what PTSD is but most of them don’t know is how bad it affects the people who deal with it day to day. Something as simple as a ballon popping could trigger a PTSD vet and give them so called flashbacks to what they went through at a certain point in their life. Could there be something to fix those triggers and calm someone who suffers from this mental illness? Well there is an animal out there that is the number one helper with PTSD veterans and that is the dog, but more specifically a canine. Canines are more slender, long legged dogs with pointy ears and a lovable personality. German shepherds are one of the most common companions prescribed to vets with PTSD as they make the vet feel safe and comforted. They show their owner love and affection in return for a companion that watches them and takes care of them. These dogs do miracles to the veterans by helping them cope with their illness and move on in life.

VA studies have shown that approximately 20-30% of veterans live with PTSD and with that around 50% of those vets turn to suicide compared to non PTSD adults. According to the VA Suicide Prevention Annual Report, nearly 18 service members take their own lives each day. These numbers and statistics show the dangers of what PTSD can do to someone and how it makes simple daily tasks a complete struggle. The CEO of Canine Companions, Paige Mazzoni says that “Service dogs provide a significant therapeutic benefit for veterans with PTSD.” In providing these canines to veterans they can significantly reduce the suicide rate of PTSD patients and help them succeed with this fight against PTSD.

These canine are special as they are trained to be service dogs and are specifically trained to help vets with PTSD-mitigating tasks such as turning on lights, and creating a buffer especially in public places, and even help prevent nightmares. Although these tasks seem awful easy for the regular person, for a vet suffering from PTSD its like a battle in their minds. Dogs in general help adults battle anxiety, depression, and loneliness, so specially trained dogs for PTSD vets are even more trained to help their owner with almost anything they struggle with. Lots of PTSd vets suffer from nightmares and often get very little sleep which then affects how they think even more and makes them feel more inclined to commit suicide as it affects their mind and thinking. Canines drastically help benefit veterans sleep as it makes the vets feel loved and having someone by their side helps with nightmares and panic attacks.

PTSD and its affects on ones mind very much can guide a person to commit suicide to end the struggle of battling with PTSD. Many vets don’t know where to get help and are scared to talk to others about their problems which makes their battle with it even worse. Nowadays more and more VA clinics are offering help to the vets and canines are just one of the many solutions to help combat PTSD. Canines are loyal and will always stick by their owners side taking away that feeling of loneliness and anxiety vets may face. The canine also gives the veterans activities to do like taking a walk or napping together on the couch even going to the dog park helps fulfill happiness in both the dog and the vet. These studies showing the effects of canines and PTSD vets offer a great explanation as to why a vet should really consider getting a trained dog and their quality of life will skyrocket.

Causal – HurtNowitzki

When stepping into a head position or high valued role in an organization, the mindset going into it nine times out of ten is to implement your own ideas in hopes to improve from what your predecessor has built. Above all else you definitely don’t want to make things worse than they were before you were appointed to the position. Nevertheless under your newly acquired leadership typically you want to drive the organization to new heights making your mark essentially building a “winning culture”.

We’ll be taking a look into The Jackson St. Tigers (2020-22) and The Colorado Buffs (current). 2 Collegiate football teams that have undergone successful changes in leadership and in turn built a winning culture. It’s safe to say that not only building but maintaining a “winning culture” is a high priority in just about any level of athletics. Proper coaching is a big part of building this culture. An area of coaching that is held high in collegiate football is recruitment, after all you need quality players to make quality plays on and off the field in efforts to move towards this winning culture .

NFL legend and current Head Coach of the Colorado Buffs Football Team, Deion Sanders seems to understand the formula to a science. Winning culture is defined as “a culture that sets the stage for positive attitudes, high expectations, and successful performances.”(Jamail, 1) Coach Deion Sanders or “Coach Prime”  throughout the past 4 years has displayed his understanding of building a winning culture with emphasis on recruiting. Deion Sanders to this date has now been head coach of both of the aforementioned teams who prior to his arrival had little to no success.

From one organization to the next, one steady element of Coach Prime’s success is his ability to attract and secure some of the highest rated recruits. Coach Prime started his collegiate coaching career at Jackson St. University an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision team. Before Coach Prime’s arrival the team had finished their previous season with a record of 5-5 and the year prior a record of 8-12.

Now those numbers aren’t necessarily abysmal but when you take a look at the seasons Coach Prime was able to have with the program in just a few years it may help move you in a better understanding of what his impact amounted to.

“In Fall 2021, Sanders led Jackson State back to championship glory with a school-record 11-win season and the first Southwestern Athletic Conference football championship since 2007. JSU went undefeated in conference play (8-0) and won nine consecutive games to complete the regular season en route to the SWAC Championship and the program’s first-ever berth in the Celebration Bowl.”  (JSU Page, 1)

Coach Prime’s first year had an immediate impact with recruiting. After the impressive first year Sanders had already began drawing attention to the program. Due to this acquired attention it aided recruitment which eventually led to Jackson St. scoring many notable athlete commitments from athletes that had many offers other than Jackson St. but one that stood out above the others was the commitment of arguably of the highest rated recruit in the nation in athlete “Travis Hunter”. Hunter who had a multitude of offers from higher level Division I schools chose to play under Coach Prime because of the impact he’s had on the program and his players.

Coach Prime’s impact was displayed on and off the field. So much so that, even just as much as the fact that his name was attached to a subdivision DI college football team even their viewership per game drastically improved. “With viewership for the first two games surpassing more than 200,000 online views on ESPN3, the power of Coach Prime and JSU transformed the network and led to the final four contested games of the spring season televised on linear television on ESPN or ESPN2 as JSU posted a 4-3 record.” (JSU Page, 1) Coach Prime’s reputation which dates all the way back to his legendary football career to sports analyst is a heavy benefit for overlooked teams when his name is attached to them. This increased viewership and the team’s success eventually leads to more players wanting to play under Coach Prime and also setting up his players with more exposure to get them to the next level.

While at Jackson St. due to his quick success and ability to change the culture of the program from a “underground” level program to a now more *exposed*, winning, and respected program Coach Prime was presented with many awards. Some of which include “SWAC Coach of the year” and “Black College Hall of Fame Coach Of the Year in 2021” amongst many other awards he received during his time with the program. Coach Prime’s understanding of flipping the culture of an organization was in full effect and he and his team were feeding the world with as much evidence as they desired.

After 3 years with Jackson St. Coach Prime decided to take his skillset to the next level of collegiate football. Sanders was hired at The University of Colorado which at the time raised many eyebrows and even infuriated some. The world’s initial reaction contained questions such as “If his intent was to provide HBCU football programs with more exposure why would he leave?” and “Why would he choose Colorado, they have been one of the worst teams in college football for years”. This criticism didn’t phase Coach Prime, he went into Colorado with the same mission as he did with Jackson St. but now on a higher level. This Colorado team finished last season with a painful overall record of 1-11 and the season prior to that an overall record of 4-8.

Within the first few weeks of his arrival Coach Prime had already started changing the program inside and out. Changing the standards of his player’s etiquette on and off the field. To the numerous questions Coach Prime would receive about him taking on the task of yet another underperforming team his most common response was “We Coming.”. The mentality of no matter what the public may see or think about this team he and they will show the world just how great they are.

With Coach Primes arrival he also displayed his recruitment skills again, bringing multiple players from his former team as well as freshly recruited athletes along with him to help revive this struggling program.

It should also be noted that Sanders happened to recruit the nation’s top-ranked transfer class as it plays a final season in the Pac-12 before moving to the Big 12 in 2024. That’s what can lead to winning big.”The haul includes nine scholarship players who played for Sanders at Jackson State, most notably son Shedeur, the quarterback, and two-way star Travis Hunter, who was the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruit in 2022. Cornerbacks Omarion Cooper and Travis Jay transferred from Florida State, while receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. (South Florida) and running back Alton McCaskill (Houston) are others considered premium talent.” (Bell, 1)

Start Working Out

Working out is a not necessarily what people believe it is. It goes far beyond the simple act of moving one’s body. It is a wide range of activities, from jogging and weightlifting to yoga and dancing, all aimed at improving physical fitness, health, and overall well-being. One could say that the type of workout you enjoy doing is the best workout. For example, if you do not enjoy doing bent over barbell rows, then you are more likely to cheat the workout and not get much out of it. If kayaking for a few miles is something that you find entertaining then it seems like a no brainer you should do it instead of a barbell row. What is great about these two different types of working out is you are still training the same muscle group.

One of the core elements of working out is developing strength and/or endurance depending on your goals. Regular physical activity challenges the muscles and cardiovascular system. This leads to an increase of strength and stamina. Whether lifting weights, doing high-intensity interval training, or participating in recreational activity, working out helps individuals build muscle and improve their overall physical performance. As individuals become stronger, they become more resilient. the sense of accomplishment that comes from setting and achieving fitness goals can boost self-esteem and self-confidence.

Working out plays a major role in weight management. It is a huge way to burn calories, which is crucial to maintain a healthy weight. Obesity and other health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease, can be effectively managed through a combination of regular exercise and a balanced diet. Moreover, working out not only helps with weight loss but also helps maintain it over the long term, making it a fundamental component of a healthy lifestyle. Doing regular physical activity can really reduce the risk of various chronic diseases, including heart disease, hypertension, and certain types of cancer. Exercise has been shown to lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels. These health benefits underscore the vital role that working out plays in preventing health issue and promoting a longer and healthier life. Exercise has also been shown to enhance cognitive function and brain health. Regular physical activity can improve memory, learning, and problem-solving abilities. These cognitive benefits highlight the positive impact of working out on mental acuity and overall brain function, making it a vital practice for individuals of all ages.

Working out is a powerful tool for reducing stress and improving mental well-being. Physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, which is the body’s natural mood lifter. The release of endorphins during exercise can eliminate symptoms of depression and anxiety. Regular exercise can help people control the stressors in their lives, leading to improved mental health and emotional resilience. It can be going for a run or a serene yoga session; Working out provides an outlet for daily stress and tension. People tend to feel accomplished and overall happier when after they are done with their workout.

Working out is a concept that includes more than just physical activity; it is a transformative practice that improves physical and mental health. Research shows regular exercise strengthens the body, prevents disease, reduces stress, and enhances brain function. The benefits of working out extend far beyond the gym, making it an essential practice for individuals seeking to improve their life quality. Whether you are an athlete, a casual exerciser, or just beginning your fitness journey, working out offers a path to a healthier, happier, and more connected life.

REVISED: In Vancouver, the “free heroin for addicts” program is trying to stop the people who are heroin addicts from committing crimes that support their habit. There is a large crime rate for addicts who use a drug called heroin. Not providing drugs to addicts will help keep them off the streets by denying drugs to addicts forever, as society might be able to eliminate addiction forever. Which will prevent them from committing crimes on the street and get them the help they need at hospitals. This program helps get people off heroin in the cleanest way possible, but not the addiction as you can only end it.

Justice and the Pursuit of Innocence

The innocence project is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to help exonerate the wrongfully convicted individuals through the use of DNA evidence. Since the start up of the organization in 1992, they have played a critical role in revealing the flaws within the criminal justice system They are also showing how frequent people are being wrongfully convicted. The positive impact of the innocence project on the criminal justice system is very big. What the innocence project has done is not only expose the flaws within the justice system, but also make important changes to prevent this from happening in the future either in the justice system or them just wrongfully convicting someone without proper evidence.

One of the major ways that the innocent project contributes to the criminal justice system is by raising awareness to the flaws and errors throughout the system, and what leads to people being wrongfully convicted. How the innocence project makes these changes is by investigating the cases they under cover the mistakes and misconduct throughout the case, and if any bias is in the case that have led to an individual being wrongfully imprisoned. These exposures by the innocence project serves as a catalyst change within the system.

The innocence project work has brought a lot of attention and importance of making unbiased investigations of the prosecutors misconduct. One of the main things the innocence projects looks at in these cases is if there was eyewitness testimonies in them. The impact of eyewitness testimonies is most of the time or miss identifications. For example, in the case of Barry Gibbs, who spent 45 years in prison for murder, he did not commit the innocence. Project help revealed that the prosecution had withheld evidence that could have exonerated or freed him earlier. This situation not only leads to Gibbs’ release, but also raises a major question in the justice system, and how ethical these prosecutors are conducting these cases. And they advise that these cases need a stricter oversight or a second opinion before going into final decisions.

The innocence project’s main work is really focusing on how unreliable eyewitness testimonies are in the criminal justice system. Many factors contribute to this numerous wrongfully convicted. People have been because of eyewitness testimonies, and how unreliable they really are. Throughout the use of DNA evidence the innocence project has shown the limitation of human memory and the potential of miss identification. The results from the innocence projects bringing awareness has majorly impacted the police procedures, and the implementation of more accurate identification method hoods such as double blind lineups, and also double checking everything before going off of an eyewitness testimony, that has no further evidence or proof to support the eyewitness claim.

The most direct and significant impact that the innocence project has done is the exoneration of wrongfully convicted individuals. How they free these individuals is through the use of DNA evidence. The innocence project has helped exonerate more than 375 individuals in the United States alone, these individuals have regained their freedom and former life‘s, but their stories extend beyond their personal stories, because of what they have gone through and what they have to go through the rest of life because of this. The exoneration of these wrongfully convicted people expose how the criminal justice system is flawed and easily wrong at times. This demonstrates that it is not only immune to errors, but much more. This major find by the innocence project made many people realize that they need to increase the public scrutiny of the system. The innocence projects made a major and significant change because the public saw this, and wanted the system to be changed for the better. It has also forced a reevaluation of the death penalty leading some states to reconsider its use due to the possibility of executing an innocent person that was wrongfully convicted, because that has probably happened before and will happen again, because of the systems and how they have not been changed yet.

The innocence project has not been limited to only individual exonerations. They have also influenced many policies and legal reforms of both state and federal levels. The organization’s efforts have prompted changes that address some of the root causes of these people being wrongfully convicted, and they are also working on to prevent this from happening in the future in the justice system. One of the most significant policy changes that the innocent project adapted to was post conviction, DNA testing laws in many states prevented people from getting DNA tests after being convicted. These laws that the innocence project have introduced to the policy, provide convicted individuals the right to request a DNA test of evidence that could prove their innocence. The innocence project has been a pivotal tool in the fight against wrongfully convicted people, and still stands and . support in what they are doing. The organization has also advocated for lead changes in the way interrogations are conducted. The innocence Project has shed light on the problems of false confessions, which are often manipulated or forced. As a result, some police departments have implemented practices for interrogations to minimize the risk of false confessions. This includes all records and recordings to ensure the persistence of the legal counsel.

The innocence project has played a crucial role in shaping public opinion, and mobilizing these criminal justice reforms. How the innocence project is doing. This is by sharing the stories of the wrongfully convicted individuals. They have exonerated which gathers the public attention because of the justice system being wrong. Throughout documentaries, news coverage and social media the innocence project has reached a broader audience in treating empathy for the innocent individuals who have suffered due to being wrongfully convicted. The public support has translated and increased funding resources, and the political pressure from the public also addresses the issues throughout the justice system.

In conclusion, the innocence project has played a vital role in exposing the flaws within the criminal justice system, exonerating, wrongfully, convicted, people, influencing policies and legal reforms, and also changing and shaping the public opinion. They have also helped prevent this from happening in the future in the injustices. The innocence project has not only provided a second chance at life for people who are wrongfully convicted, but has also acted as a catalyst for the change within the criminal justice system. As the innocence project has made significant progress. There is still much more that needs to be addressed and done Before they are done doing what they are doing.

Casual Argument – jreggie

Aerobic Exercising as in full body movements for a long duration is good for your circulatory system.

Excersicing has many different variations of movements and doesn’t just fall into one category. It has many branches that includes weightlifting, endurance training, resistance training etc. One particular branch of exercise is Aerobic training. Aerobic training speeds up your heart rate and breathing and requires oxygen. It is important for many body functions and can improve cardiovascular health. It includes using your entire body without weight, instead using your body as the weight. This type of exercise doesn’t only target one specific muscle group but instead involves the entire body. It helps with improving your cardiovascular system. In the article “High-Intensity Aerobic Exercise Training Improves the Heart in Health and Disease” by the authors Kemi, Ole Johan PhD; Wisløff, Ulrik PhD states that the most recent studies in patients with established heart disease suggest that a high relative, yet aerobic, intensity of the exercise training improves the intrinsic pump capacity of the myocardium, an effect not previously believed to occur with exercise training. Meaning that aerobic exercise has many benefits with keeping your heart beating healthily.

Aerobic exercise helps get rid of unwanted abdominal fat.

One place that most people hate having fat is in the abdominal region. It is more difficult to target fat loss in one specific area without losing it all over the body at once. In the article “Abdominal fat reducing outcome of exercise training: fat burning or hydrocarbon source redistribution?” the authors Chia-Hua Kuo and M. Brennan Harris state that “fat burning, defined by fatty acid oxidation into carbon dioxide, is the most described hypothesis to explain the actual abdominal fat reducing outcome of exercise training. This hypothesis is strengthened by evidence of increased whole-body lipolysis during exercise. As a result, aerobic training is widely recommended for obesity management.” Aerobic exercises help in working out the entire body and raising your heart rate to burn fat from everywhere it also helps with obesity management. Athletes believe it or not do a lot of aerobic exercise as in running, jumping jacks and whatever else their coach decides to put them through. In the article named before it states that “significant body fat reduction in athletes occurs when oxygen supply decreases to inhibit fat burning during altitude-induced hypoxia exposure at the same training volume.”. The less oxygen intake, the more the body uses the fat for energy. “Lack of oxygen increases post-meal blood distribution to human skeletal muscle, suggesting that shifting the postprandial hydrocarbons towards skeletal muscle away from adipose tissue might be more important than fat burning in decreasing abdominal fat.” It all comes down to a science when it comes to burning fat while doing aerobic exercises and how one utilizes that information.

Aerobic exercise can have psychological benefits such as helping with depression.

Aerobic training already has its health benefits, improving your cardiovascular system but it also could benefit psychologically as in helping with depression. Depression affects people in many different ways. One way is with being overweight. It’s a mental concept that individuals feel like their body is not as desirable as they want it to be or what they think others prefer them as. It also could help with doing more activities with other people could create bonds. With losing weight while doing aerobic training was said could help people get the body they want as well. In the article “Long-Term Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Psychological Outcomes” states ” Following completion of a 12-week aerobic fitness program (and through 12 months of follow-up), 82 adult participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory, Profile of Mood States, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale.” 82 adult participants went through a 12-month aerobic program, and we observed to see if the exercises were helping. “Exercise participants experienced a positive fitness change and psychological improvement over the initial 12-week program compared to a control group. At 1 year follow-up, physiological and psychological benefits remained significantly improved from baseline.” The program had positive results on training with individuals that have a form of depression that improved over time. Aerobic exercise can change people’s lives and could possible save them as well.

Calisthenics is the best form of Aerobic training.

A great example of Aerobic exercise is calisthenics which is gymnastic exercises to achieve bodily fitness and grace of movement. Full body exercises that speed up the heart rate is good for your raspatory system because it builds up your endurance. With using your body as the main weight to your exercise you can target more than one area on your body. In the article “CALISTHENICS EXERCISES TO INTERVENE IN OBESITY AND DIABETES IN MIDDLE-AGED PEOPLE” by authors Ningning Kong, Guantong Yang, Lixia Wang, Yang Li, it states “Select 86 T2DM patients as experimental subjects from a health checkup in a certain community, the selection criteria are: Age ≥50 years”. The article states “Sort by BMI, the above 86 subjects were randomly divided into two groups: Exercise group and control group, there were 43 cases in each group. There was no statistical difference in gender, age, BMI, etc. between the two groups”. An experiment was conducted on 86 obese patients to see if aerobic calisthenics would lower the risk of overweight medical conditions. They were split into two groups. The method to declare if this hypothesis could be correct was that a 16-week exercise intervention that the patients performed. The authors explains that ” The exercise intervention lasted for 16 weeks, with sessions held 3-5 times per week, varying from 60 to 90 minutes per session.”. “The PASA aerobic exercise performed in this study has a significant impact in reducing the amount of visceral fat in middle-aged and elderly obese patients; at the same time, it also shows that the payment of aerobic exercise can reduce blood sugar, insulin and insulin resistance index. Relieve the high blood sugar of the body, reduce insulin resistance, and enhance the sensitivity of tissue cells on insulin.”. The results of this experiment made a great point proving that aerobic exercise performed by obese patients had a significant effect on reducing blood sugar which contributes an important role in obesity.

Vancouver suffers from a crippling heroin crisis in its streets and the only solution is to… give heroin addicts free heroin. It may seem counterintuitive but the cold reality of the situation is that drug addicts can and will do anything and everything to get their next fix so isn’t it easier to take to path of least resistance if it guarantees that everyone is safer for it? Yes unfortunately this program does not cure addicts from their addiction but instead gives them a safe place to get clean needles and high-quality products eliminating the need to go to shadier sources for their fix clearing up hospitals and neighbors in the process.

Offline Aggression and Online Aggression

In video games, aggression can come in many forms. Yet, most people do not truly know what it’s like for aggression to carry between real life and gaming. I find it easy to make this distinction between fictional and the real life that we live in. Rises in aggression and the lack of distinction between the two worlds that some people exhibit have been a major worry for people all around the world, especially politicians and doctors. The “harmful” video games that have come out in years past are believed to be the root cause of many aggressive actions and mindsets, but they are not the sole reason for which these actions occur.

Whenever a tragedy linked to video games happens, I think of the term “offline aggression.” This phrase, in my opinion, carries different connotations depending on who hears it. For the average person who isn’t versed in the ways of psychology, ultra-violent games seem like the most aggravating method for “offline aggression.” However, in a study by Elias Aboujadou and Vladan Starcevic, published in “Mental Health in the Digital Age: Grave Dangers, Great Promisethey state, “the findings of this study suggest that there is little or no difference between the effects of lower level and higher level aggressive media content.” This immediately sets a precedent for these researchers as they have established the lack of differentiation in how people are affected by thresholds of violence. This can then feed into the “offline aggression” and how different levels of aggression can be difficult to separate based on severity.

An act of aggression committed in the real world is what qualifies as “offline aggression.” These acts of aggression can vary in their severity as distinguished in Aboujadou’s study. The catastrophic and monumental acts of “offline aggression” are what people majorly focus on. While the minor upticks in aggressive behavior do matter, it is the major ones that get media focus. The lack of focus on minor acts of aggression committed by gamers is not that bad, as not every type of aggression can be categorized as negative. A categorical organization of these events, actions, and consequences could be quite helpful in helping the general populace understand what truly happens during the aggressive tendencies that people exhibit.

In the article,Blazing Angels or Resident Evil? Can Violent Video Games be a Force for Good?” by Christopher J. Ferguson, aggression is defined even further: “Aggression can thus be distinguished from aggressive play in which two or more consenting individuals are wrestling, playing war, and so forth, but mutually enjoy the activity.”  Defining aggression in this way narrows down how we can classify “offline aggression” even further as now we can show how actions and their consequences have different effects. Consent is an important component of any action and whether or not all parties consent) is an important distinction. Calling simple roughhousing “offline aggression” is not accurate you have to take the bull by the horns in this situation and really focus on the maliciousness of the act. This rough and tumble mindset that people have toward the aggressive actions taken by others is at times concerning, as many “offline” and “online” aggressions have very harmful consequences to the people around them.

“Online Aggression” is the direct opposite of “Offline Aggression,” while offline aggression focuses on the actions taken in the physical world, “Online aggression” is the actions taken in the virtual world. The “online aggressions” taken are far more prevalent and easier to find as many games are labeled by the ESRB as being violent in some shape or form, even games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater are labeled as being violent even though it is a franchise of sport games and the most violent actions being taken are the results of missteps and falls. These types of violent actions do not truly contribute to the two different forms of aggression as one is not taking some sort of nonconsensual action against another and falls more under the self-harm category. Even then that is not truly accurate, since being injured during a sport is something considered more of an accident in general.

In “online aggression” consent is a much trickier matter in online games it can be argued that in Player versus Player combat, all people do have some sort of consent by participating in the games and modes that have these options. At the same time, when things like surprise attacks and raids happen upon unsuspecting victims the presence of consent is a much trickier matter.

More often than not, single player games are story driven adventures that take the player along some sort of recreation of the hero’s journey. Sandbox games are a hybrid of both single player and multiplayer modes, as they can be played either alone or with friends. These genres are a little trickier to classify in terms of “online aggression” as the term has been previously defined as non consensual acts of violence. Certain types of mulitplayer modes have an automatic informed consent due to the nature of play. On the other hand this is not always true as in games like Minecraft where players are given free reign to do whatever they want in either single or multiplayer. One could play the game alone as a farmer and occasionally butcher farm animals for food and fend off the occasional monster attacks or they could destroy the homes of the local NPC (Non-Playable Character) populace.

In conclusion, Video games are a major concern for people all around the world, from politicians to parents, but this should not be the case whatsoever. While aggression is sometimes given from the games that people play, the increases in “offline aggression” are often minuscule. Both forms of aggression; “online” and “offline” have similar definitions, an aggressive action taken towards something in a nonconsensual manner. The slippery slope of the multifaceted nature of “online aggression” does muddle the affair just a little bit, but the definition is still easily definable.
