Rebuttal Argument
The debate of defunding Planned Parenthood has become a very controversial issue in the United States, recently. Although there are a plentitude of individuals who believe that taking away government funding for this institution would be a grave mistake, there are those with a different viewpoint. The strongest and most debated opinion regarding the defunding of Planned Parenthood is currently that the organization provides abortions. Period, end of story. This is really the only credible argument that anti- Planned Parenthood supporters have to justify their cause.
Anti-abortion activists want to obliterate Planned Parenthood because they provide abortions. While yes, this is a very true fact, Planned Parenthood only performs abortions while following the guidelines of the Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment states that government funded abortions are only allowed to be performed in cases of rape, incest, or if the pregnancy is causing harm to the mother. While these all seem like rational and justifiable reasons, there are those who still believe that abortions should be illegal under any circumstance. After having abortions be legal in the United States for so long, it would be extremely unfair to suddenly get rid of them.
Abortions are a necessary part of life. Unfortunately, ugly things like abortions are sometimes necessary and this is an issue that everyone needs to accept. A woman has the right to do what she wants with her body. If planned parenthood is defunded because of the anti-abortion activists, women are going to just end up going to much more drastic members to obtain abortions if they truly feel that they need one. This could become a real danger to women who can only afford abortions through Planned Parenthood. An abortion is a very serious procedure, which could cause harm to the mother if not performed properly. It makes much more sense to have abortions performed by a government trusted institution than other untrustworthy manners.
Not everything in life is always going to be sunshine and raindrops, that is not what life is about. Life is about dealing with problems in the best ways that we can. Unwanted pregnancies are a large problem in the United States, and Planned Parenthood does an amazing job in preventing over 500,000 unwanted pregnancies per year. Without Planned Parenthood, think about how many unplanned pregnancies would occur. This would cause the need for more abortions. Combining all of these pregnancies with the defunding of Planned Parenthood would truly create chaos in this country. Truly, it does not make sense to defund this institution, considering all of the good that it does for the people of the United States.

Chance, I’ve read only your first paragraph so far. It’s readable and clear, but unnecessary. The valuable part is your identification of the claim you wish to refute. That’s essential. The rest is “throat-clearing.”
Instead of:
Your paragraph should read:
I see very little here that isn’t already in your other short arguments, Chance. Furthermore, you have neglected to make any actual citations in your essay. The Works Cited is one part of a two-part requirement. The other is to quote or paraphrase and give credit in your essay to the authors of your research sources. At a bare minimum, you need to quote directly from the source that best represents the “opposition” argument you say exists.
