Elevator Riddle – Thekidfrombrooklyn

  1. When a Summoning Button is pressed, the elevator will immediately move to the corresponding floor of the button press.
  2. Upon arrival, the doors will stop and open only if the floor matches either a Summoning or Destination button press.
  3. If it aligns with a Destination Button press, the elevator will proceed to that floor.
  4. However, during the fulfillment of a Destination Button request, all Summoning Button presses will be disregarded, except for those indicating travel in the same direction as the Destination Floor.
  5. In cases where there are no active Destination Button requests, Summoning Button presses will be fulfilled in the order they were initiated.
  6. To ensure efficiency, the doors will close automatically after 7 seconds of inactivity.
  7. If a Destination Button is pressed, the doors will close promptly before the elevator proceeds to the corresponding floor.
  8. It’s crucial to note that the doors will also close before moving to a floor where a Summoning Button was pressed, maintaining a smooth and organized operation of the elevator system.

I love a lot of this, Kid.

Help me out with the first three

#bull; When a Summoning Button is pressed, the elevator will immediately move to the corresponding floor of the button press.
—First of all, it’s a DESCRIPTION, not an INSTRUCTION, but that’s easy to fix:
—When a Summoning Button is pressed, PROCEES immediately to the corresponding floor of the button press.
—The instruction sends the elevator to the floor that corresponds to the Summoning Button press. Good.

#bull; Upon arrival, the doors will stop and open only if the floor matches either a Summoning or Destination button press.
—Obviously, the CAR will stop and the DOOR will open, but that’s easy to fix, too:
—Upon arrival, STOP and OPEN the doors if the floor matches either a Summoning or Destination button press.
—Here’s the tricky part: the elevator doesn’t read instructions in order, unless you define the order. If you sent the elevator to the floor of a Summoning Button, this rule that mentions the Destination button is pretty confusing.
—So: either this rule should be an ONLY IF rule under the first rule, or you could make it more general.

#bull; If it aligns with a Destination Button press, the elevator will proceed to that floor.
—This again seems to be part of a sequence of situations instead of a general rule.
—Can you write the rules so that they are true in ALL SITUATIONS instead of needing to follow a sequence?
—If you choose sequences, you’ll have to describe thousands of them.

Should you revise, your Beloved Professor will not automatically notice.
So, if you desire a Regrade, put your post back into Feedback Please and let me know you’ve earned fresh consideration.
I’ll decide whether the improvements are substantial.
(Try not to make things worse. 🙂 )
