00:01-The first second of video shows a family holding a bunch of bags and items that shows they may be going on vacation or a road trip. The Dad seems calm and has a blank expression on his face while the Mother looks more surprised with her mouth open and holding one of the two children.

00:02-The next frame shows them walking towards something and the little child near the father seems to be pretty happy. You can see the dad holding a stroller on his back and a bag back while the mother holds a juice box and a bag also.

00:03-The third second zooms in on the mothers face who seems to have a more happy look while holding the kid and continuing to walk forward.

00:05-The fifth frame shows the little girl walking with the dad and she seems very happy as she grabs onto a toy connected to one of the bags the father is holding onto.

00:06-The sixth second shows the father eating some kind of roll and holding it in his mouth as his hands are so full of bags and toys. The little girl seems to be laughing at him while the mother has a concerned look on her face as if she thinks the dad may drop everything.

00:08-The seventh and eighth frame shows the dad almost dropping the stroller on the ground as he struggles to keep the food in his mouth also. They seem to be in a rush as the moms face gets shocked but then happy when the dad is able to get a hold of the stroller and keep walking.

00:09-This frame shows the mom almost dropping her son and has an overwhelmed look as her mouth is open and she also struggles to keep ahold of everything aswell.

00:11-The frames in-between 9-11 show the father regaining his grip on the stroller and mouthing down on the roll

00:13-This frame shows the dads feet as he stumbles around to gain balance on his feet as if he almost tripped while trying to carry all the items on his back

00:15-The fifteenth second shows the dad in the very back picking up something he must’ve dropped on he floor. The little girl is at the front of the family and has a big bright smile on her face while she is holding one of her toys in her hands.

00:16-This frame shows the family arriving upon the car which seems to be a van and shows the little girl drop her toy onto the floor while the mom stands next to the passenger side door still holding onto her son and the dad in the back.

00:17-This frame shows the mother placing her cups onto the roof of the van while the son she is still holding is looking down at his hand with a smirk on his face the mom plans on opening the door to finally relieve her of holding everything.

00:18-This shows the dad and the daughter opening the side door to the van and the dad has less stuff on his hands and back that he has to hold onto. They are about to enter the car.

00:19-This frame shows the mother holding the younger child and looks like she is about to place him in the backseat of the car as the van door is opening.

00:20-The twentieth frame shows the father buckling in the young daughter into a car seat as both smile and seem happy to where they may be going to.

00:21-This frame goes up close and shows the buckle of the carseat being plugged in by the father

00:22-This frame is quite funny as the daughter seems to throw around a bowl of popcorn or cereal and laughing while the father is shocked at what just happened

00:23-This frame shows the mother buckling in the son right next to the daughter who is already buckled in both children seem relaxed and secured in their seats

00:24-This shows an unclose video of the mom buckling in the son and quickly transfers over to a ad which seems to explain how important car safety is and the right seats make the ride more safe.

    Visual Rhetoric: How Much Detail?

In it, as one of the examples of How Much Detail is the right amount of detail, you would have found this model:

An African American family stands right outside of their home facing away from it. You can assume this argument is correct because there is a middle-aged bald man, a woman, and two young children, boy and girl. The mom and dad are holding a lot of things in their arms, which leads one to believe they just left the house they own. Both the mother and father have colorful collared shirts with no stains or wrinkles, and the woman’s hair is done nicely, it doesn’t look ratty. This gives one the impression that they are not poor. Maybe they are not rich either but they definitely have some money. The mom is holding the boy in her left arm, a bag in her left hand, some sort of satchel wrapped around her torso, and a coffee in her right hand. The dad carries a stroller on one arm and a computer carrier on the other, in his hands he has a drink and several toys/stuffed animals, presumably for the two children. It seems as though the parents have a lot to juggle. This is not only physically, but rhetorically the director wants us to know they are busy people with a lot going on in their lives.

What confuses me about the opening is that dad appears focused on something in the distant sky, or on the roof of the house across the street, and that mom does a neighborhood scan as she spins away from the front door. What the hell are they looking at, or for? You say it’s obvious they own this house, but I get the contrary impression that they rang the doorbell and got no answer and are now perplexed about what happens next. Maybe they’re hoping some neighbor will say, “They’re away for the weekend. Didn’t they tell you?” If the video provides no explanation for this strangeness, I’ll consider that a strange failure.

The viewers are shown a family leaving from the front door of their house. The mother of the family is carrying a toddler in one hand and with an orange cup in the other hand. The father is carrying a variety of children’s toys, a stroller, a presumed diaper bag, and a cup. Behind the father and hiding in between the two parents, is another child who is looking down and is out of the focal view. The mother is turning towards the viewer as the camera lens is slowly zooming out. The video quality is professional and clear and is filmed at a slightly lower angle. The mother has a frantic expression with her mouth open, while the father has a calmer expression. The overabundance of materials gives the scene a sense of the chaos in the family. It appears this family is rushing out of the house to go somewhere.

You have not told us anything about the house, and not much about the parents or children. You haven’t indicated why we believe this group to be a family. It may be uncomfortable to point out the ethnicity of your cast, but every viewer will react to their skin tone, even the variations in skin tone. We don’t yet know much about this presumed family, but their dynamic and their situation might very well be influenced by their economic status, their age, their race(s). Are they dressed for a certain type of weather? Can we see the sky? Are the parents so completely pre-occupied with the stuff they’re carrying that they don’t make eye contact with each other, with the children, with anything else? What are they looking at? What does the house look like? Where is it located? Viewers will begin to make judgements about the family from details such as these. What makes you certain they’re coming out of their own house? Granted, it’s the most likely situation, but what if they hauled all this stuff and all these kids to a relative’s house who turned out not to be home? Might they just as easily be departing disappointed from someone else’s home? If we saw them close the door, we’d know more.

The viewers are shown what appears to be an African American family who is presumably leaving from the front door of their house. They are stepping away from their front door, however, we do not see it close. It makes it unclear whether it is their house, but it seems to be in a regular suburban neighborhood. The door is white with patterned windows and a brick wall surrounding the exterior of the house. The family seems to be a middle-class family, based on their house and casual clothing consisting of t-shirts, jeans, and standard work attire for the parents. They are dressed for moderate to warm weather. There are four people present, a mother, a father, and two children. The parents appear to be middle-aged. The mother is carrying her son, while the daughter is standing behind the father. The mother is turning towards the viewer as the camera lens is slowly zooming out. The video quality is professional and clear and is filmed at a slightly lower angle. The mother has a frantic expression with her mouth open, while the father has a calmer expression. Both parents are looking past the camera into the distance. We do not know what they are looking at, however, we can assume it can be something in front of their house or in the sky. The overabundance of materials gives the scene a sense of the chaos in the family. It appears this family is rushing out of the house to go somewhere. The parents are completely preoccupied with the stuff they’re carrying that they don’t make eye contact with each other.

    So.
Does that give you an indication of how much work went into highly-graded versions of this assignment?
