- Remain on the lobby floor until the summon button is pressed
- If the button is pressed for the lobby, open the doors to the lobby and allow 15 seconds for passengers to enter and to press the button for the floor that they wish to exit at
- After 15 seconds, close the doors as long as there are no appendages or passengers in the path of the door that would prevent the doors from closing, or that would result in harming a passenger
- Once the doors have closed, proceed to the next closest floor that has had the corresponding button pressed
- Once at the corresponding floor number, open the doors and allow 15 seconds for any passengers wishing to exit to get off or passengers that wish to get on to enter
- After 15 seconds, close the doors as long as there are no appendages or passengers in the path of the door that would prevent the doors from closing, or that would result in harming a passenger
- Proceed to the next floor that has had the corresponding button pressed and repeat steps 5 and 6 for each floor that has had the corresponding button pressed
- If no summoning button on any given floor has been pressed for 30 seconds after all of the floors that have had corresponding buttons pressed have been visited, proceed back to the lobby until a summoning button has been pressed again
- If a summoning button has been pressed while in the process of proceeding back to the lobby after the 30 seconds, stop, and go to the floor corresponding to which summoning button was pressed
- If the close door now or door stay open button is pressed before the 15 seconds on each floor are up, either close the door, or stay open until button is released, depending on which button is pressed
- In the event that the emergency stop button is pressed, stop immediately, and send a signal to the front desk to contact the police and fire department to aid in the emergency

First of all, you’ve done good work here, ElongatedLobster. You couldn’t have imagined the full complexity of the assignment. That said, I’m going to make recommendations for ways to improve your work, should you elect to improve it.
The elevator never needs to be told to do nothing. If it has no active instructions to respond to, it will stop doing anything until it’s given a new instruction. Delete all references to waiting or remaining.
“button for the lobby” is unclear. It COULD mean a passenger pressed the button for the lobby. Or it COULD mean someone in the lobby pressed an UP button or a DOWN button (in the case of a building with floors below the lobby).
Either way, you don’t need to make FLOOR-SPECIFIC instructions.
In this case, if anyone anywhere in the building pressed a Call Button or Summons Button on any floor, the elevator would go to that floor. If its doors were open when the call came, it would close them first. If the doors were closed, it WOULD NOT first open them.
15 seconds is an eternity for elevator passengers. Time one the next time you have the chance.
The elevator has no idea that passengers exist, even less of an idea that they have appendages, whatever they are. If any of your instructions tell the elevator to close the doors, that’s plenty.
You can write JUST ONE additional instruction to tell the elevator to interrupt the closing process and reopen the doors.
You don’t have to tell it to RE-CLOSE the doors. Whatever instructions told it to close the doors in the first place will cover that.
See the challenge now, EL? This is a VERY PARTICULAR reader. Your instructions can and should ignore any other reader.
If you choose to revise, open it in Edit, make your improvements, then click Update. Put it back into Feedback Please or Regrade Please, or both.
