First Hypothesis
- Anxiety and performance
- Anxiety affecting someones performance on tasks
- Anxiety and its affects on Schoolwork
- Performance decreased from anxiety
- If someone suffers from anxiety, then their performance on tasks may decrease.
- Having an anxiety disorder can affect their performance on tasks given to them by schools or universities.
New hypothesis
- Emotional Support animals feel empathy
- Animals in general feel empathy for their owner whether they are emotional support or not
- A lot of pets got adopted during COVID Time Period.
- COVID caused stress on humans but less stress on pets.
- As humans stayed home to do their work by their pets sides, their pets enjoyed the company.
- Pets that were adopted or gotten during COVID have more anxiety and separation issues than most pets now that COVID lock down is over.
My first impression of your research suggestion is that it doesn’t need to be proved, i.p, unless I’m missing something. It seems completely obvious that being uncontrollably anxious—if that means living in dread of a mandatory task—would be counterproductive.
So, maybe what you’re calling your 6th step is actually just the 1st step.
My second impression is that I wish it could be counterintuitive. I’d be MUCH more likely to read a paper on the unexpected BENEFITS of anxiety disorder. And I will say that, considering how broadly you’ve expressed yourself, “anxiety disorder can affect their performance” doesn’t necessarily mean it “worsens” their performance, does it?
A certain amount of anxiety is present in almost every deadline task. As the deadline approaches, we all think “oh, shit, this thing is due in two hours and I haven’t started yet,” or something similar. That’s actually useful, isn’t it? The fear of negative consequences is a powerful motivator for getting work done.
You may say I’m misunderstanding what anxiety disorder is, or misstating how debilitating it is, and I’m sure that’s true, but it will be your job to correct my misunderstandings if you’re going to make a successful contribution to the conversation.
Let’s see where it goes. You’re a long way from finishing this proposal.
I love the dog anxiety angle and the COVID connection, i.p.
I just did a search of Google scholar for:
“anxiety medication” +dog +COVID
I got 157 hits:
https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C31&q=%22anxiety+medication%22+%2Bdog+%2BCOVID&btnG=
There are other ways to tweak the search parameters, but this looks promising. 157 is in the “sweet spot” for results. Not NOTHING. But also not MILLIONS of sources. Just enough.
Give it a shot.
Yeah, this is much better.
You don’t need to improve this any further, i.p.
Instead, you’ll flesh out your #6 with a longer and more fully-developed formal research proposal (just a paragraph or two) as part of your next assignment: the Proposal+5.
We’ll discuss it in class today.
