What should I call you? I prefer David or Dave, but students uncomfortable with first names can call me Professor or Mister Hodges. My ESL students' charming solution, "Mister David" is my favorite by far.

It’s a bold Hypothesis if I understand it, but I’m not sure I DO understand it because you aren’t clear what you mean by “the influence of women in literature.”

If I had to GUESS based on your sentence, I’d conclude that maybe they appeared more often as characters? or that more women were writing? or were published? than before the 19th century? or that they portrayed themselves differently? or better? or WERE portrayed more or less favorably by male authors?

    Or something else?

Are you suggesting that women were PREVENTED from social protest BECAUSE of their mere presence in literature?
