How to KILL the Reflective Statement

With different levels of completeness and transparency Skibidy Sigma and Lobsterman KILLED the Self-Reflective assignment by treating it like every other argument in the course. They were brief and clear, and most importantly, they BACKED UP their claims with specific illustrations from their other writings.

Formal Course Evaluation

Notes about the Formal Approach
(from the Department)

Bullet Points about the Evaluations:

  • Your participation in the student evaluation process is voluntary,
  • your responses will be anonymous, and
  • evaluation results will not be made available to the instructor until the semester has been completed and final grades have been submitted to the Registrar.

Student evaluations are an important part of the assessment process. They provide important feedback to professors so that they can understand the strengths of their teaching as well as areas that may need some more attention. Your feedback is also used for re-contracting, tenure, continuing professional development, and promotion. This process is voluntary on your part. Should you decide to participate, please take this responsibility seriously.

The results of your evaluation will not be released until the term is completed and grades have been submitted to the Registrar.

Rowan University recognizes that student evaluations of teaching are often influenced by students’ unconscious and/or unintentional biases about the race and gender of the instructor. Women and instructors of color are systematically rated lower in their teaching evaluations than men and in particular white men, even when there are no actual differences in the instruction or in what students have learned.

As you fill out the course evaluation, please keep this in mind and make an effort to resist stereotypes about professors. Focus on your opinions about the content of the course (the assignments, the textbook, the in-class material, etc.) and not unrelated matters (for example, the instructor’s appearance, age, or gender identity).

You are encouraged to complete the open-ended portion of the assessment. Use this portion to better explain your scores. Specific constructive suggestions that focus on your learning are far more useful than general critiques. Comments that are not related to your learning diminish the value of your feedback. Finally, ensure that your comments are respectful and professional.

I attended class today. My Portfolio was verified by Hodges. I evaluated my Professor and scheduled a final conference meeting.

Thank you for this wonderful semester! I enjoy every class time and all the riddles we got to solve together! I’m glad I could be a part of one of your last classes! You have taught me to be more creative by really thinking outside of the box with every lecture and assignment. Thank you, and I wish you the best!

Thank you for a great semester! I learned a lot of new things and you changed my perspective on many things in the world! Also, thank you for inspiring me to think counterintuitively 🙂

I had a good time this semester, thank you! Thanks for the morning coffee, definitely needed it some of those mornings, and thank you for the new outlook on writing. 🙂

“I attended class, my Portfolio was verified, and I evaluated my Professor”

“Or words that better reflected your experience…”

My experience was taking pleasure in showing the professor how glitched my posts were. I showed him in real time in front of him what happens why I try to post something. He was just as surprised as I was. I am glad I got to show him in person, <s>you</s> one con not simply explain over an email the glitch, much less try to get someone to believe you without a demonstration.

Holy moly did was the last day a nail biter! Any class with 75% of the grade going to one thing, in this case our portfolio, is crazy! I worked <s>tirelessly</s> to the point of fatigue to produce the best material I could. I even told my boss I was not coming in a few days I was scheduled to try to make better papers! There is still so much I wanted to refine, but time did not allow for.

But at least I can proud that I did everything the right way, the hard way, I spent those hours in the library. I spent those hours in the Starbuck. I spent those hours trying to go above and beyond in everything I did. And sometimes I sprinkled in some backwards humor.

That you for the coffee in the morning. I hope that you saw it did not go to waste and gave every class my all. I cared about your class as you cared about your class. I would not have talked to you after class and made zoom meetings so often if I didn’t.

I hope this Christmas treats everyone well, I wish everyone a happy holiday season and a happy future!

    And remember, stay counterintuitive!
