The Chicago Bulls Would Have Won
Zero Championships Without Michael Jordan

The Chicago Bulls were founded on January 16, 1966, hoping for early success, like all new franchises. But they didn’t achieve their first championship until 25 years later, when they would draft Michael Jordan. This was a franchise altering move that would forever change the landscape of the Bulls organization. Jordan would have an immediate impact on the team by leading the league in scoring his rookie season and leading the Bulls entire team in scoring, assists, and rebounds. Jordan would also take the third worst team in the league the prior year to the playoffs with a record of 38-44 and even beat the best team in the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks once in the series but unfortunately they would be eliminated. For the next decade Jordan would completely dominate the NBA winning many awards and Championships.

In the first article I consulted, “Michael Jordan Career Stats,” I found out just how incredible Jordan truly was. During Jordan’s fifteen-year career, he averaged 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. Jordan currently holds the all time points a game average during the regular season and during the playoffs. If you take away the highest scorer from the Chicago Bulls they very quickly would go from best to worst, even if they tried to replace Jordan it is not possible, a reason for this is because “n 1,072 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 14 All-Star games. He won the Rookie of the Year award, 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, 5 MVP awards, 6 Finals MVP awards and 6 NBA championships”. Michael Jordan was one of one, these statistical feats he achieved would show the insane dominance he played with. You take this away from the Bulls and they would never win a championship. With all of these accomplishments Jordan achieved, this all leads to Jordan being the GOAT. No player has a greater resume as when Jordan first joined the league he was already the best, and this would continue throughout his entire career making him the GOAT.

In “Life without Michael Jordan: The Story of the 1993-94 Chicago Bulls” The Story of the 1993-94 Chicago Bulls,” Michael Jordan has just retired for the first time after the unexpected loss of his father. Jordan was coming off a championship win and an MVP season. This article explains how poorly the Bulls performed without Jordan. The team was coming off two championship wins in a row, and except for the loss of Jordan, they had pretty much the same team. And this factor proved true, with Pippen having a breakout season and coming in third in MVP voting. The Bulls finished the season at 55-27 and advanced to the playoffs, where the loss of Jordan really showed. Losing the greatest playoff scorer of all time really hurt them against other great teams, and they fell in the second round to the Knicks. Pippen did elevate his play to become the new Bull MVP but not the league MVP that Jordan was. While the Bulls were able to replace Jordan in the regular season, they couldn’t replace his ability to will his team to win in the playoffs every year.

If any basketball player can lay claim to GOAT status, it’s the player whose PRESENCE virtually guarantees success and whose ABSENCE spells failure. In my third and final article, “The Chicago Bulls’ Title Drought Without Michael Jordan ” this goes into the struggles the team faced after Jordan left. In 1998 the Bulls would finish 17th in the east after just winning the championship, with almost an identical team, the loss of Jordan would destroy them. Not only did the loss of Jordan contribute to the Bulls losing, but they would lose a massive part of the fanbase they created during his time. Some fans may have been Jordan fans and not Bulls fans, so when Jordan left so did they. The loss of Jordan also destroyed the team’s chemistry as there were now players that wanted to fill Jordans shoes and players who were only on the team to play with Jordan. The following season after Jordan retired the Bulls traded Dennis Rodman, and Pippen. The loss of Jordan gave the superstars no incentive to play for them and the Bulls would quickly go into a very long rebuilding stage which is still in effect 25 years later. This rebuild was so bad that the broadcasting networks would refuse to show their games as it was a complete disgrace to Basketball. After Jordan left, the Bulls record in the playoffs is 4-6. The Bulls who were this great franchise in the 90’s were left to nothing with the loss of Jordan besides the 6 great trophies they won.

To conclude, the Bulls record without Jordan is 207-389 in the regular season and they are 4-6 in the playoffs without him. Jordan won 6 championships for the Bulls, winning all six finals MVPs which was never done before. Without him they would have never won a single one, as we saw in the 1993-1994 season the Bulls were at their best and Jordan retired and the team that was claimed as the best in history couldn’t get past the second round without Jordan. Jordan did what many players dream to do, win a championship and he won six. No player can compare in just how great Jordan was. Jordan was the best scorer of all time and the most clutch and the loss of him is still felt within this franchise to this day. No other player will have an effect on their team for as long a period like Jordan. This is what makes Jordan my candidate for the one and only GOAT status.

Ag-Gag- Ladybug

So Let’s Talk About Raising Animals for Food:

  • Alan Sytsama is a Food Editor for the New York Magazine who wrote a short summary called “So Let’s Talk About Raising Animals for Food”. He talks about animals being seen as only a source of food and how the Humane Society had found evidence that could lead to Smithfield being sued.
  • A link to the website of Raising Animals for Food.

Each participant has THEIR own reasoning for animals being raised as food and they each have there own opinions. Alan Sytsama wrote about animals as a source of food and how Smithfield production is being boycotted by Humane Society who found evidence of their crimes.

Humane Society:

  • A video and report that it says are the results of an undercover investigation into a Virginia breeding facility operated by a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods.

Humane Society has left me with the impression of them trying to help animals not go extinct that they had investigated Smithfield facility to find crimes that they committed. The evidence that they describe to me tells us that they have found crimes that a facility that suppose to help animals is not to be trusted.

Evidence found on Smithfield:

  • Piglets tossed into dumpsters
  • Employees jabbing at a lame sow to get her to move
  • Pigs developing open pressure sores as a result of being “crammed” into gestation crates
  • Tiny holding pens restrict the pregnant pigs’ movement to almost nothing.

Smithfield:

  • The slogan of the company is “Good Food. Responsibly,”
  • On there website it says, “Industry-Leading Animal Welfare Management Program.”
  • The company slogan about “Good Food” and “Animal Welfare Program” which is just a place to breed animals so that they won’t run out of food.

Smithfield slogan of “Good Food. Responsibly” make me think that theirs food is the best in town and the animals that they use are being cared for, but the evidence that was told says our wise. Which makes me feel that the so called “Animal Welfare Program” is just a place for people to sell theirs animals for slaughter.

Mark Bittman:

  • Linked a video on his site that boycotts all Smithfield products
  • Bon Appetit = Vegan Diet
  • People avoiding factory-raise meat
  • He linked a video about Bon Appetit being a “vegan until six diets” and Smithfield being boycotted that people avoid factory meat.

Mark Bittman had gone on a Vegan Diet and has avoided all factory raise meat due to Smithfield’s crimes. He added a video about being vegan and how he was so disgusted of Smithfield’s food that he recommend people not to buy there products.

J. Kenji Lopez-Alt:

  • Trip to La Belle Farms in Hudson Valley
  • Gave his impression of foie production to others of it not being bad.
  • Lopez-Alt digs deeper into the science behind foie production isn’t horrible.
  • It being physiology a big part for migration.
  • La Belle Farms is a place in Hudson Valley where foie gras production is operated Lopez-Alt went there himself and came with the same impression as everyone else, that isn’t a horrible place.

While Lopez-Alt who we to La Belle Farms gave his impression foie’s production not really being all that bad or horrible. Which I find to impossible due to what we just learned and it only leaving a physiology impact on the animals.

They don’t really give me any information that I see to be trustworthily or important at all. The pigs tossed in dumpsters make it seem their just left over pieces that aren’t used but the sores they have from being “crammed” leaves behind bugs, bacteria, and cause people to get sick just from eating the pigs with sores.

Rebuttal Draft -Jreggie

Aerobic training is putting your body through tough exercise without the use of weights. It has many benefits for one’s health, but could that actually be proven? Aerobic training can also have negative effects that could damage individuals in many ways without even knowing. Unknowingly people could injure themselves or even get a health condition while doing any type of aerobic training without proper research. You could possibly put yourself in a worse position than what you started as.

The issue is not only what type of aerobic exercise can cause harm to the body but how long a person does it for. In the article “Bad Exercise” by author Stan Reents and PharmD has multiple headers on bad exercise but one of them is named “Bad Aerobic Exercise”. This section of the article has examples of bad aerobic exercise and what could happen if someone does it incorrectly. One of the examples is what effects it has on the heart. It states that “Recently, it has been suggested that long-term excessive endurance exercise can lead to myocardial fibrosis, coronary artery calcification, and malfunction of the contracting action of the heart (O’Keefe JH, et al. 2012).” This means that a long period of aerobic/endurance training could cause heart problems like myocardial fibrosis and coronary artery calcification which both doesn’t sound great. Another example under the “Bad Aerobic Exercise” header is “Effects on the Endocrine System”. It discusses ” When young female athletes lose enough weight and body fat so that their normal menstrual cycle is disrupted (amenorrhea), they are at risk of a decline in bone density. This is known as “female athlete triad” (Torstveit MK, et al. 2005).”. What the quote from the article is explaining is when younger women loose enough weight and body fat it could have negative effects on their menstrual cycle and bone density.

Aerobic exercise is very straining on the body and at the end of it you could feel very exhausted. Who would want to be sweaty and fatigue. High intensity exercise could also change the mood and physical state of the one doing it. In the article “Acute Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Mood.” explains an experiment of 32 female medical students ages 18-23 completed 2 8-min trials of high-intensity exercise and 2 8-min trials of low-intensity exercise. One high and low were accompanied with music, the other 2 trials were accompanied by metronome. They were split into two groups based on their heart rates. Their mood was analyzed before and after the experiment. It states that “High-intensity exercise led to increases in tension/anxiety and fatigue, whereas positive mood changes (vigor and exhilaration) were seen following low-intensity exercise only.” meaning that the women that were in the high aerobic exercise were more fatigue and tired but for those that were doing low intensity were in a positive mood. Aerobic training could change your mood depending on how you’re doing it.

No one likes muscle pains and tries their best to avoid them but aerobic exercise could put more strain on the body than expected. Individuals with sore joints may find it difficult to preform aerobic training because it causes to much stress on the joints. “8 Pros and Cons of Aerobic Exercise” it discusses that “People who have sore joints, arthritis, or trauma due to past injury will struggle to do a lot of the available aerobic exercises that are available today. Someone with painful knee joints, for example, may be limited to using an elliptical machine or a bicycle for their aerobic exercise. Others may be forced to exercise within the confines of a swimming pool. Because it is so hard on the joints”. This means that people who have arthritis or past injure trauma can injure themselves more due to aerobic exercise. It could even cause more injury to the body due to past occurrences. Too much of it will have someone with arthritis having unimaginable pain the next day.

There isn’t weight training involved with aerobic training. If you are looking for a toned up muscular physic, then aerobic training is not for you. It helps with loosing fat and slimming down but not at all with muscle growth. In the article “8 Pros and Cons of Aerobic Exercise” it mentions that “it is an effective way to slim down or lose weight, but it isn’t an effective way to build muscle. If that’s what your main fitness goal happens to be, then aerobic exercise can build up your stamina, but that’s about it.”. This is discussing that muscle growth does not play a role in aerobic exercise because it does not include heavy weights but does improve stamina.

Too much of one thing could be bad for you. That is the same with too much aerobic exercise. An abundance of aerobic exercise can have negative effects on the heart. The training requires your entire body moving. It involves raising body temperature and more oxygen being released than receiving. People with heart problems while doing aerobic training could be at high risk of an heart attack. While doing the training it speeds up your heart rate and increases blood flow, but some individuals can not handle that kind of strain. In the article “Positive and Negative Effects of Exercise” by Henry Halse, CSCS, CPT it states “The most extreme case is sudden cardiac death in athletes, where a seemingly healthy person suffers a heart attack during a sporting event or workout.” This means that a person could undergo a sudden cardiac arrest putting their lives in danger.

Before considering doing high intensity aerobic exercise, you should consider consulting with your doctor. Also doing research on your own can be beneficial. Aerobic exercise can have as much negative affects as benefits such as heart problems like myocardial fibrosis and coronary artery calcification. It can alter your mood and cause fatigue. Have a personalized routine that is good for you. Learn if you have any conditions that may be life altering if doing aerobic training.

Accuracy of Self-Assessment in Low Self Esteem

Self-assessment is a critical part of everyone’s cognitive process because it quantifies self-worth and rewards success. However, self-performance can be difficult to measure accurately for several reasons. The first reason is that our actions, and our true levels of ability often differ from what we internalize. Since we frequently lack the information necessary to accurately assess our competence, the information environment for self-evaluation is frequently insufficient, which makes it difficult for us to make accurate assessments of ourselves. The source “Self-Assessment: Why Evaluating One’s Own Competence Is an Intrinsically Difficult Task” claims that we internally believe external feedback is frequently imprecise, deceptive, and absent. As a result, we often do not correct the false beliefs we have about ourselves. Self-limiting and false beliefs can hinder our ability to reach our goals, keep us from living the lives we envision, and undermine our self-worth.

The conscious comparison and labeling that occurs in our minds should prevent self-evaluations and esteem from being correlated. In “The Social Self: the Role of Social Situation,” it is stated that self-labeling—the process of consciously incorporating labels from others into one’s own self-concept—may happen to us if we are subjected to ongoing criticism by others. When people internalize assumptions made about them from others, it can lead to internalized prejudice, which can happen to those who self-label in these circumstances. Other people’s opinions of us have a stronger integrating effect on our oneself than our own self-evaluations. For instance, people categorize and stereotype others in particular ways, perhaps informally based on ethnicity. Drs. Rajiv and Hammond claim that internalized prejudice has been connected to worse psychological adjustment and a more negative self-concept in individuals belonging to a range of groups, such as racial minorities. According to these results, people may sometimes internalize the stigma attached to a label that they have previously associated with themselves.

This is supported by research conducted by Samuel Parra león, Antonio Pantoja Vallejo, James Byron Nelson, and others, which shows a strong relationship between students’ self-performances (SSA) and real-world performance. According to their research, students with lower SSA scores tend to overperform, while those with higher SSA scores underperform. One explanation for these findings may be found in the Dunning-Kruger Effect. According to the authors study’s, this effect is caused by a cognitive bias in which we mistakenly believe that our cognitive abilities are either higher or lower than they are. One explanation for the cognitive bias in “over estimators” is that they have an internal delusion about their own cognitive capacity, which gives them greater confidence but poor performance. Under estimators may experience cognitive bias due to a mistaken belief that the external evaluation of their abilities is more severe than it is. This can cause us to undervalue our own abilities and result in low self-esteem. The results of the study show that less competent individuals overvalue themselves, while those more competent undervalue themselves.

An individual’s self-concept and self-esteem are greatly impacted by the social comparison process as well. We can discover things about ourselves, our relative social standing, the appropriateness and validity of our opinions, and our own abilities and skills when we compare our own attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors with others. Drs. Rajiv and Hammond state that these comparisons can be made with individuals we know and engage with, individuals we read about in the media or watch on TV, or anyone else we deem significant. However, when we compare ourselves to others who are similar to us, the comparisons have greater significance. Upward comparison can reduce our self-esteem by reminding us that we are not as fortunate as others. Despite these negative effects, upward comparisons can be useful at times because they provide information that can help us do better, imagine ourselves as part of the group of successful people we want to be like, and give us hope.

Individual variations exist in the accuracy of self-assessment as well. Extraverts seek excitement and positive feelings; they are confident and upbeat; they are dedicated and enthusiastic; and they feel more like they have accomplished something in life. Conversely, introverts are more cautious, timid, quiet, and critical of themselves. The article “The Social Self: The Role of the Social Situation” claims that low self-monitors typically prioritize their internal beliefs over the expectations of the social context, whereas high self-monitors use self-presentation to try to win others over by acting in ways that others find appealing. People who are good at self-monitoring may have higher self-esteem when they believe their behavior matches the social demands of the situation, and lower self-esteem when they believe it does not. Low self-monitors, on the other hand, may experience self-esteem boosts when they see themselves behaving consistently with their internal standards, and feel less self-worth when they believe they are not living up to them. Insufficient information surrounding us leads to flawed self-evaluations, not prejudice, wishful thinking, or brain ignorance.
