Reflective – TheFrogSprog

Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

I used the Proposal+5 and what would later become my Annotated Bibliography to have a place to place the wide variety of sources I used in my papers as well as the ones that I feel left a large impact on my thought process and writings but found no place for in my papers to specifically use. The way that I used the bibliography to compile and file the expanse of citations that I felt could be a great aid in my time in this course. The development of my paper can very easily be seen through how my sources started to become more and more honed and focused on specific ideas as you get towards the end.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

I met this synthesis of sources in my Rebuttal through the arguments my sources had engaged in. The way in which I had the studies of Markey and Ferguson interact with one another is the pinnacle of my synthesis. The direct difference between the two sources where Markey claims that video games have caused a spike in violent crime while Ferguson shows the direct opposite where he proves that there has been a steady decline in crime over the decades of video games becoming more and more prominent.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

For my Visual Rhetoric assignment, I had to watch a 30 second video on YouTube while it was muted. In this assignment, my task was to analyze what was being presented to me one frame at a time and hypothesize why the director was choosing to show me each and every frame that was presented to me. I was able to find what the purpose is, and who the audience is, and with further revision, I think I can get my point across better in my writings after the advice I was given by Professor Hodges.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

I feel that my Definition paper is a great demonstration of this core value as the evaluation and incorporation of the “Offline Aggression” definition I feel was a major player in my definition and Research papers as a whole. I used Aboujadou’s paper and how I used his definition of “offline aggression” and expanded it to further my goal and interpret the meaning of “online aggression” based upon his use of “offline aggression.”

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

In my Research Paper, I feel that I meet this ethical responsibility towards properly citing my sources as the paper is the culmination of my semester’s work. It is my duty as a student to do my due diligence and make sure that I properly cite my sources in text as well as including all of the sources I cite in the References section.

Your better entries are those that make specific claims by naming the sources you consulted and deployed. As for Values 1, 3, and 5, I would have no idea at all what you wrote about. To be clear, I can’t tell a thing about your research from 2 and 4 either, but I do get the names of your consulted authors.
    Graded.
