Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

I feel that I best demonstrated my understanding of Core Value 1 in almost all of my assignments. In particular during the overall construction of my research paper. Exploration being me figuring out what it was I wanted to write about as well as my hypothesis. Discovery being taking my newfound topic and doing further research on tit and compiling it with prior knowledge. Conceptualization being planning on how I was going to take my hypothesis of “Deion Sanders being the best recruiter in college football” and break it down into the 3 different areas of Defintition/Categorical, Causal, and rebuttal. Development was best represented during my stages of revision or rewrites, where I added repositioned portions of my essay so it would flow well when the final piece was finsihed

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.

I feel that I best demonstrated my understanding of core value 2 in my rebuttal portion of my research. I demonstrated my critical reading by going through my multiple sources who have critiqued Coach Prime’s actions as Head Coach of The Colorado Buffs and finding flaws in their claims and exploiting them in my writing. On the subject of placing texts into conversation I feel as though the contents of my rebuttal essay are satisfactory.

For example: Wasserman makes a claim in regards to Coach Prime’s blunt honesty with his players and their value within the team,  “That’s treating players like commodities, and it’s a tough sell for future recruiting efforts, both in the high school ranks and in the portal.” Even though there may be some truth to this statement, it seems Wasserman may have a small amount of bias when it comes to Coach Prime and his team.

In presenting the oppositions claims and then providing my rebuttal as well as detailed evidence from multiple sources I brought together to prove the same point. I believe I properly created meaning in proving that Coach Prime’s antics were more beneficial than negative by synthesizing ideas from various sources/communities.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

I believe that I demonstrated core value 3 in my Stone Money essay. In the stone money essay we were tasked to take the information given from the numerous sources provided about the early foreign currency of limestone and then assess how the world values different types of currency vs. what it actually is. In my essay I understood that because I was going to be talking about the idea of general currency my readers would likely be my age or older. Therefore, when I referenced moments from my childhood I made sure to reiterate my proposed connection between the way my cousins and I viewed our beyblade pieces as a form of currency and the people of Yap with their limestone.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

I believe that I properly demonstrated my understanding of Core Value 4 in my research essay. Due to the short list of resources provided about my topic I had to go through numerous google searches to try and pull the information to prove my point. I also had to go through the same extensive process to look for a rebuttal for my proposal. In my research essay I went as far as incorporating and quoting a YouTube video from famed sports analyst Stephen A. Smith, in doing so I believe I displayed a sense of versatility in my writing that maybe others have not. All in efforts to prove my point that Deion Sanders “Primetime” persona is a good thing for college football.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

I believe that I demonstrated my understanding of Core Value 5 in both my Stone Money Essay and final research paper. On the subject of representing complex Ideas Fairly, in my stone money essay I started off briefing my readers on the history of “Fei” within the people of The Island of Yap I then began to connect it with events from my childhood and finished off connecting that to Video Game Currency. Without twisting what original authors spoke of in their texts I was able to appropriately reference them and establish the connections effectively. When it comes to the appropriate citation portion I am quite fond of the effectiveness of my research paper. When quoting articles or any media, I understand that it is crucial to properly cite resources to avoid plagiarism infractions.

Only partially complete. The last two entries are still boilerplate.

Highly graded Reflective Statements tend to be those that mention specific details to support their arguments. From your first three summaries, no reader could even guess what your topic was.

    Now THAT’s a Reflective Statement!
