Smoky Bear’s head appears in the center of the screen, behind him there is a lush green forest. While bears are normally depicted as dangerous animals Smoky is friendly and has small teeth.(During our meeting you said he had no teeth. This is wrong, if you look very closely you can see two very small bottom teeth.) The forest behind him is very real, and amazing fuel for a raging forest fire. He is talking, most likely introducing himself and starting off with a vague speech about fire safety. Professor Hodges compared him to Jesus emerging from the clouds. I see this, Mr. Bear is like the Jesus or protector of the forest and all its creatures.0:00

There is a man grilling in between the foreground and the background. He seems like he only has a little bit of experience with the grill, enough to get him started but it is crucial that he has help. The man seems happy. A prepared but unoccupied table sits in the foreground. Four cups and a small appetizer are on it. Both of these things imply there are other people with him. A few empty chairs are in the background. We are in a very fertile environment shown by the green bushes, grass, and trees. 0:03

Someone shorter than the man comes in. Maybe a child or short wife. It is confirmed there are other people. My guess is that it is his child. 0:04

They are running happily so they are probably a child playing. Seeing a child playing evokes emotions of joy and nostalgia. Older people want to return to that joy, so when confronted with a child playing they will sympathize with them. 0:04

There are actually two children playing. One boy and one girl. The boy looks slightly younger than the girl. The man seems happy so I imagine he is their father. It makes you feel happy for them. Appealing to pathos or a moral standpoint. 0:04

As the children run past the father looks down. Its a loving gaze, this really pushes the pathos element. They are a happy family, you want them to stay that way. 0:05

The frame switches to a smartphone on the table with Smoky Bear on the screen. Again it is just Mr. Bears disembodied head. He is still portrayed as a nice bear with small teeth and soft features. 0:09

The man and smoky talk while the children play in the background. They are probably talking about fire safety since the man is grilling which is a common fire hazard when done incorrectly. He is also grilling on grass and small flame coming off that grill could easily decimate the happy children and foliage behind him. 0:11

Smoky responds and the man picks up the phone. With a happy demeanor, instead of being reluctant to hear what Mr. Bear is saying. That seems obvious because the only way Mr. Bear would be able to take over a smartphone like that is by downloading an app. 0:14

Smoky and the man continue the conversation. Everything looks to be going well, there are no signs of panic. The wildfire prevention title instills panic, the entire time I was waiting for something horrible to happen. 0:18

The man looks down at the phone confused. Another person has entered the background near the children, maybe the wife or mother. The backdrop is so carefully curated to show you the beauty of nature. Greens, soft reds, sunlight, bushes, and flowers all things that are very flammable. Not to mention the other houses in view. This isn’t the only family that could be effected by this. All the happy families in this happy neighborhood are going to die if Mr. Bear cannot provide the father with accurate information about grilling safey.0:20

The mans face expresses a change in thought and smiles to Mr. Bear on his phone. Mr. Bear is similar a religious figure in this. An all knowing being you can summon at anytime to assist you in your life struggles, even if that life struggle is not knowing much about grill safety. 0:24

The camera pans out to show the people in the background and the man grilling. They seems to all be having fun so I assume the new character is the mother. This moment reminds you that this is what is at risk if the father didn’t have Mr. Bear on speed dial. The loving and happy family could die if proper fire protocol isn’t followed. Mr. Bear is their savior here. Truly Jesus coming down from the heavens to bless this family with the knowledge of grilling. 0:25

The man turns around and grabs the attention of the three people in the back. Probably to signal the food his is grilling is ready. All trouble was avoided, this family will now sit down and happily enjoy a meal together. Mr. Bear, the all-knowing being, saved the day. 0:25

This video appeals to pathos by showing imagery of the happy family, children playing and an overall pleasant emotional appeal. They want you to see this happy family and make you want to keep this family happy. Even if you have limited knowledge of the art of grilling you can still keep your family safe. Maybe you relate it to wanting to keep your own family safe, or you just empathize with the people in the video. They use your empathy and relatability to push their agenda. Along with the current issue of preserving nature, with climate change we hear more and more everyday about how wildfires are getting worse. This video was released after the horrible wildfires that were started by people unsafely using “pyrotechnic devices.” This is a real issue that Mr. Bear has dedicated his life to and even as a floating cartoon head he is able to complete his mission. Just the idea of Mr. Bear instills a fear of wildfires.
